‘Bycatch’

Commercial fishing is a major cause of death among many species, including endangered sea turtles. A recent study at Duke University found that more than 250,000 loggerhead and 60,000 leatherback turtles are caught by long-lines alone every year. Scientists predict that if turtles continue to be caught at the same rate that they are now, some species might be extinct in 10 years.
